Povey Butchers - Traditional Family Butchers

Povey Butchers was established in 1948 by the late John Emrys Povey.

Well known for the high quality meat & homemade meat products, the Brongadair shop soon became too small for the business. In 1965 he built a new modern shop with a larger preparation area to cope with the increasing demand for cooked meats, faggots, brawn and a veriety of homemade sausages and burgers. The business continued to flourish, gaining many new customers not only through the shop but also as a supplier of meats and cooked produce to many local businesses.

In 1997, Dafydd Povey took over running the company. Both he and colleague Jim Humphreys are both Master Butchers with over 40 years experience each. Dafydd's family, Sian, Dafydd Sion and Lois help too.

The business contunied to grow and a new extension had to be built in 2006.  This was a very welcome addition to the premises as growth in business had continued - It enabled Povey Butchers to cope with the ever increasing demand for its now famous quality meat products!

In 2013 the family business was shown on TV a very well known celebrity chef visited the shop to see how Dafydd prepared & cooked OX tongue using an old family recipie and traditional method.

Povey Butchers continues its success and now provides quality products to a wide variety of outlets including restaurants, pubs, garden centres and bakeries. The shop has remained important and bucks the trend in the demise of High street butchers by remaining successful and busy – Customers travel many miles to buy the quality meats and cooked products on offer.
